Description:
The West
End Lofts are located on a prominent corner at the edge of downtown
Boulder, Colorado. The solution to the complex design problem
required moving an existing historic building 50 feet to the west
to make room for a new mixed-use building (retail and residential)
along the entire 9th Street frontage.
The new building
contains approximately 7,000 s.f. of retail space at-grade level
with four residential lofts on the second and third floors. Setting
back the third floor space gives the building a two-story scale
in keeping with its context.
The existing
building is renovated and landmarked in its new location along
Walnut Street. The one and a half-story building provides a transition
to other buildings along Walnut Street, which have a one and two-story
scale.
