Description:
The purpose of the study was to explore appropriate
and efficient building types that could be employed in the redevelopment
of the abandoned railyards north of the Union Pacific rail line
and directly east of Historic Downtown Truckee. The selection
of these building types is influenced by the following criteria:
the need to create new affordable residential units within the
area; the desire to stimulate both construction and permanent
jobs within the area; and respect for Truckee's small-town mountain
community atmosphere.
The building
prototype methodology used in this study can help to ensure that
the most desirable building-to-building and building-to-street
relationships will be maintained. Mixing the prototypes helps
to produce a diverse and interesting new community.
